Thank you!

Thank you so much for your advice. It's already making me consider changing what I'm doing. I'm so grateful to get different perspectives! Just curious, when is it too early to let them cry it out (for those who voted "not before a certain age")?

  1. I've heard four months is a great age to let them learn to fall asleep on their own. My question is when can a baby cry it out for all night feedings. Like when can a baby go 12 hours without eating at night?

  2. Also, your doctor gave advice that I've heard/read differently. I've read that if you go to your baby after an hour (at night) all you've done is teach her to cry for an hour. I've read (Healthy sleep habits, happy child) that at night you should not set a limit on crying.

  3. My pediatrician told us that babies can metabolize sugar for 12 hours once they are 6 months old. Also by then they usually have about three meals of solids per day to help them regulate sleep cycles with their eating habits. With all three of mine, the pedi has told me to start cry it out at 6 months and it takes me about a month to get the courage to do it, so I have always done it at about 7 months. If you wait to much longer than that then they can hold onto the crib rails and stand and cry for much longer. Also, I sooooo agree with Nicole, it is misery to hear them call your name and not go to them. Do it before you hear that sweet girl say the word mama! That word should only be music to your ears not torture as they cry for you, I know I made that mistake with my first one!
